at least i'm getting paid..

the first time for anything is always scary.

that first day of college, being forced to mingle with people who may end up being your greatest enemies or your best friends and being thrown in an unfamiliar location, leaving you lost and overwhelmed. that first kiss, being afraid that you would miss and make a fool out of yourself or that it wouldn't be returned. that first flight overseas, feeling the uncomfortable pressure in your ears and freaking out at the unstable airplane as it takes off and jets towards the sky.

the first day of work is no different, especially when you are dropped off in an empty cubicle with no access to any of the equipment and no boss available to go to for help :(

i started working at my internship yesterday, bright and early at 8:30 in the morning. after the typical orientation and sitting around waiting for paperwork to be filed, i was picked up by a member of the mechanical engineering department in the lobby for assignment. she brought me across the facility and plopped me down in a cubicle, which was bare with the exception of a monstrous monitor plugged into a small PC.

but because i could not log in to my computer, i was left with no work to do. my boss showed up briefly, gave me a description of what i was here to do, and then left for meetings that would take up the entire day. by this point it was only around 10:30, so i decided to kill time and explore the premesis. i proceeded to do so until lunch at noon, and then once that was over i walked around some more and almost got lost on the way back to my cubicle.

this sounds like a nice start to my summer job.
